Random thoughts from the Basement.
or the start of a Nomadic Life
Published on February 10, 2004 By Grog In Home & Family
The start of the spring soccer season is at hand. Time to play soccer dad again, this time with a twist. My son made the challenge team this year, which means as the lucky parental units we get a re-introduction to the nomadic life. It has been about six years since we have had to spend our weekends on the soccer trail. As I sit here watching my youngest practice I look forward to the weekend games, the wins and the inevitable losses. I think that the losses are harder on me and the wife than our son. Not because we are living the game through him like some soccer parents, but more from the look on his face as the two teams pass each other in the traditional end of the game. As a parent you can't help but wish that they win every time, but reality is someone has to loose. It is so very hard to explain to a 10 year old that it is not if you win or loose, but that you did your absolute best. We will be happy if he gets to play at least half of every game, and he is having fun. Because in the end if the kids are not having fun, what is the point even if you win every game.

Me goes back to the basement.

....even if my team played like shit the last 6 months, my heart still beats for them.
Tell your son all about my city, where the streets are empty when the stadium is full.
